Noonan, Sr. Julie CSJ "A generous spirit, sense of humor, and indispensable presence" are among the many qualities those who knew her used to describe Sr. Julie Noonan, CSJ. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 26, 1929, Julie died peacefully August 17, 2017 at Carondelet Village in St. Paul. One of fourteen children, Julie graduated from St. Margaret's Academy in 1947, and joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, making final vows in 1950. She earned a BA in English and education at the College of St. Catherine, an MA in theology at the University of Notre Dame in 1971, and began her missionary work as teacher, religious educator, and principal in Minnesota and North Dakota. Together with her dear friend Sr. Julitta Walsh and the Glenmary Missioners of Tennessee, she brought a pastoral presence and education to over 50 parishes in many states. For 19 years Julie led adult faith formation and pastoral ministry at St. Thomas More Newman Center at the University of Missouri in Columbia. A lover of music, drama, and travel, she also created many original water color paintings. Preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Daniel and Florence Noonan, her sister Elizabeth, and brothers Danny, Dick, Bobby, Jim, John, Paul, Chauncey and Tom Noonan, she is survived by her sisters Joanne Becker, Mary (Wally) Mondor, Sally Bjorklund, and Dana Noonan, and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM, Friday, August 25, at Our Lady of the Presentation Chapel, 1884 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul, MN, with Visitation at 10:00 AM preceding Mass, and burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN, following luncheon at the Carondelet Center in St. Paul.
