Damon Harris Swanson

Swanson, Damon Harris Age 82, Minnetonka, MN passed away peacefully on August 16. Born in Iowa City, IA to Reuben and Ila Swanson, he studied engineering at IA State Univ then attendedthe Univ of IA Writers' Workshop. After publishing his short story, "The Marriage of Slokey Bean," he met and married Jean Anderson, his wife of 48 years. Survived by two sons, Glenn and Chris and extended family Denise Long, Khutso Madubanya and Ellen Cousins. He worked as an engineering, design and lab manager for Honeywell Defense/Alliant Tech Systems. His work with the US Forest Service on fire retardant distribution helped change how fires were fought. As an early adaptor of computers, he brought innovative technology to his engineering team which included micro processing, rapid prototyping and stereo lithography. His love of computer technology led to exploring 3D printing and sharing his designs on Thingiverse. He loved the circus and was a member of the Circus Model Builders' Assoc. He was a horseman who served as a Director for Horsemans' BPA at Canterbury Downs. He blogged on the behavior and vocalizations of raccoons, who were frequent visitors to his home. A gathering of friends will be held at Gold Nugget, MTKA on Thursday, August 24, 4-6pm.
