Kerssen (Solstad), Lula "Judy" Passed away July 11, 2017. Lula was born May 1, 1921 in Glenwood, Minnesota, to Laura (Petra) and Ole Solstad, the youngest of four children. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. During WWII Lula worked for the American Red Cross. After the war she took a job at a floral shop where she was given the name Judy by the owner who thought that name better suited her. It was also at this shop that she met husband Glenn. Together they started Richfield Flowers, pioneering in Richfield in the late 1940's. A few years after Glenn's sudden passing in 1961 Judy sold the business and shortly thereafter she stared a KOA Campground in Wisconsin Dells. That business was sold several years later. Upon retirement Judy was an active member of Mindekirken where she served on the Council and ran the kitchen. She also chaired the annual lutefisk dinner. Judy loved to travel and meet new people and especially enjoyed several trips to Norway where she met two aunts and many cousins. In the later years she took frequent trips to southern Arizona. Judy loved people, was out-going, friendly and caring and freely shared her big smile. She was a strong woman with a kind, peaceful and giving spirit who will be missed by all who knew her. Judy is survived by daughter Anita. A service of gratitude and celebration will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 29 at Mindekirken, 924 East 21st Street, Minneapolis 55404 (612-874-0716). Memorials may be sent to Mindekirken or to Augustana Care in Minneapolis.
