Ralph C. Colby

Colby, Ralph C. of Minneapolis died peacefully of Lewy Body Dementia on July 20, 2017, with his wife, Ruth, at his side. He was 85 years old. His parents, Ralph and Hildur Colby, brother Roy, and sister Ruth preceded him in death. Born and raised in Quincy, MA, he was a graduate of Northeastern University and Hartford Theological Seminary, and undertook post-graduate work at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. A person of many talents, he began his career as a Congregational minister, serving in Meredith, NH, Columbus, OH, Austin and St. Paul, MN. He moved successfully into corporate training and development; started a profitable US subsidiary for a Danish electronics firm; and acted as COO of Project for Pride in Living in Minneapolis. He returned to ministry in l993, serving churches in Boston and New York, later becoming Executive Director of the Interim Ministry Network in Baltimore. Ralph was a member of Plymouth Church since 1983 and served on many church-related boards and committees as well as community organizations such as Alliance Housing and Transition of the Twin Cities. He is survived by his loving and devoted second wife of 44 years, Ruth; his first wife, Lee; children Carol, Meredith (Derrick Procell), Jeanette (Dave Gutzke), and Ross (Julie); step-sons Will Law (Karen) and Hans Law (Janette); eight wonderful grandchildren and many kind friends. Ralph was loved for his intellect, wit, good humor and beautiful smile. Ruth and Ralph found joy in the way the two strands of their families were knit together into one fond and caring communion. The family extends deep gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Abiitan Mill City Memory Care and Ecumen Hospice. A memorial service will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church on July 30, 2017 at 4 p.m. Memorials to Plymouth Church preferred in lieu of flowers.
