Johnson, Burton Freeman (December 5, 1925 June 21, 2017) of Minnetonka. The fifth son of Claus and Gertrude Johnson, Burton Freeman was born on December 5th, 1925, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A student at Central High School, he enlisted when he turned 17 and was assigned to the 1st Marine Division (G25). Burt's unit distinguished itself at Peliliu, Okinawa, and in China. Returning home in 1946 with a Purple Heart (Okinawa), he married his high school sweetheart, Mickey Finnerty, in 1948. After serving his country with honor, he worked with dignity as a bricklayer until retirement. Burt was the loving and dedicated father and father-in-law of five children and their spouses: Timothy (Agnieszka), Kimberly (Tom), Katherine, Kelly, and Kara (John). He found boundless joy in his three grand-daughters, Taylor, Alexis, and Katherine. Preceding him are his parents, wife, brothers Arnold, Robert, Arthur, Charles, and Richard. Surviving him are his brothers James and Dennis, his son, daughters, and grand-daughters. The celebration of Burt's life and legacy will be at St. Therese Catholic Church, 18323 Minnetonka Blvd., Deephaven. Visitation begins at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 27th, followed by the 11:00 am service and luncheon. All are welcome to join the immediate family for the subsequent burial service at Resurrection Cemetery in Shore-wood. In lieu of flowers, please direct all donations to The Salvation Army.
