Judith Plocher Kaaua

Kaaua, Judith Plocher Judith Kay Plocher Kaaua 70, died unexpectedly of natural causes at her home in Waconia, MN, on June 12, 2017. The first of four children born to Wilfred and Inez (Johnson) Plocher of Victoria, MN, on July 30, 1946, she attended Victoria Public School, Waconia High School (1963), Hamline University, Moravian College (B.S. 1967), the U. of Minn. and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (M.B.A. 1982). She taught math at the Souderton Area High School, Souderton, PA; Edina West Lower Division, Edina, MN; and the James Campbell High School, Ewa Beach, HI. Following graduation from Wharton, Judy worked as a Certified Internal Auditor in the mining industry with BHP, Magma Copper Co. and Cyprus Thompson Creek Mining Co. in Arizona, Colorado, and Idaho. Judy married Alan Kaaua of Ewa Beach, HI, in 1971. They were divorced in 1976. After retiring early, Judy returned to Minnesota, devoting time and energy to her family, managing many aspects of life for her aging parents, and generously serving the Moravian Church locally and nationally in numerous capacities. "There was only one Judy," her father said, trying to take in the news of her death. "We only have one Judy," her pastor said to a parishioner, clarifying that it was, indeed, this Judy and not any other who had passed. This particular Judy, child of God, was thoroughly honest and trustworthy, thoughtful and kind, demanding, loyal and smart surely the most loving (in that "Judy way") daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, godmother, friend and co-worker that one could have. Judy was predeceased by her mother Inez Plocher, brothers Michael and Randy (both in childhood), and former husband Alan. She is survived by her father Wilfred Plocher of Waconia; sister Susan Plocher Thomas and brother-in-law Michael Thomas of Lebanon, NH; sister-in-law Lani Kaaua Bruss and brother-in-law Jerry Bruss of Oshkosh, WI; nephews Nathaniel Thomas (Jiayi) of Toronto, Canada, Theodore Thomas of Kodiak, AK and Seth Thomas of Nablus, Palestine; nephews Bryn (Melissa), Mark (Kristi), Drey (Amy) and Trevor (Kristen) Bruss; Alan's children Kathleen Kaaua Schwartze of Tacoma, WA, and Christopher Kaaua of Wainea, HI; as well as beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and godchildren across generations. Her funeral will be at the Lake Auburn Moravian Church, 7460 Victoria Drive, Victoria, MNwhere she was baptized, confirmed and marriedon Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. followed by a luncheon. Starting at 11:30 a.m., there will be time to visit with and greet family members and mourners.
