Lois B. James

James, Lois B. Age 78, of Bloomington, died of pancreatic cancer Sunday, May 21, 2017, peacefully and surrounded by family. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by sons Hugh (Amy) James and Paul (Rebecca Pierce) James, and her brothers James and John Bradshaw. Born and raised in St. Paul, graduate of Bethel College class of '61. Gifted with an amazing memory, she had the unique ability to remember people and make connections with almost anyone. Her great attitude and fantastic sense of humor carried her through her illness with grace, sharing laughter with the people around her. A life long advocate for children with learning disabilities, she worked with The Association for Children With Learning Disabilities to improve special ed. in public schools. Known to many school kids as Mrs. Wishy-Washy, she sold K-12 educational books for 10 years, followed by a job she loved at REI. She was an active member of AAUW since '66, learned Swedish at the American Swedish Institute and was obsessed with genealogy, tracing the family tree almost back to Adam. Oak Grove Church was important to her. A member since '78, she served the church as an Elder, a Deacon, and as Youth Director. A great mom, and a friend to many, she will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
