William Patrick 'Bill' Egar

Egar, Willam Patrick "Bill" age 88, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Preceded in death by father, William Patrick Egar, an electrician and mother, Pauline (Meier) Egar, an accountant; sisters, Isabel Egar and Betty Ann (Egar) Alger; granddaughter, Sophie Egar and son-in-law, Timothy Rannow. Survived by wife of 63 years, Mary Anne (Byrne) Egar; son, William Thomas Egar; daughter, Madonna Isabella (Egar) Ladzinski; son, Thomas Arthur Egar and daughter, Joellen Marie (Egar) Rannow. He also leaves behind grandsons, Sean Rannow, Neil Egar, Alexander Ladzinski and Andrew Ladzinski; granddaughters, Gemma (Egar) Nelson and Tessa Egar; nephews, nieces, friends and business associates. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mr. Egar and his family moved to Wayzata, Minnesota in 1964, then to Minnetonka, Minnesota where he resided for 51 years. As a youngster, Mr. Egar delivered groceries and performed many odd jobs. After graduating from De La Salle High School in 1947, where he had been named All-Catholic High School All- Star Fullback, he nearly attended Notre Dame to play football but instead chose to stay in Chicago to study at Illinois Institute of Technology where he was granted a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1952. He met his wife Mary Anne Byrne at a dance during college and told his cousin, who was also at the dance "I'm going to marry her." They married in the Catholic Church in 1954. After college, Mr. Egar worked as a chemical engineer for Corn Products and M & T Chemical Corp in Chicago. He also worked briefly in New Jersey, Ohio and Canada before coming to Minnesota to work in Research and Development for the Pillsbury Company in 1964. There he headed the Computer Mathematics Instrumentation and Application group. He traveled broadly as his duties expanded and he did work in Sweden, England and Mexico for Pillsbury. He retired from Pillsbury in the 1986 and took a position with Digital Equipment Corporation as a Senior Industry Consultant where he stayed for five years. In the early 1990s Mr. Egar became an Independent Consultant and worked on a year-long Engineering Design project at Marvin Windows in Warroad, Minnesota. Following this, Mr. Egar worked for Mohawk Business Records Storage and a law firm in Waconia, Minnesota before his final retirement shortly after the turn of the century. An avid fisherman, Mr. Egar enjoyed many days on boats in Lake Minnetonka and Lake of the Woods with his family. He was a champion for children and took his children and grandchildren on many outings boating on Lake Minnetonka. He also was active in the Minnetonka Athletic Association and enjoyed mentoring his sons about football. No stranger to community service, Mr. Egar also worked with the Executive Director at Capital Community Services in Saint Paul, which was at the time serving the Hmong and the disadvantaged. A celebration of his life and a Catholic Mass will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Church of Saint Therese, 18323 Minnetonka Blvd., Deephaven, Minnesota 55391. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at church. Private interment will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Home in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Hennepin County Humane Society or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
