Susan M. Cooke

Cooke, Susan M. Age 70, of Minnetonka, passed away in her sleep on April 18, 2017. She was smart, kind, caring, funny, and a wonderfully loving mother. Susan was born January 4, 1947 in Minneapolis. She grew up in Minneapolis and Waconia, where she graduated from Waconia High School. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Minnesota. She graduated from the U with a degree in education in 1969, and she served as an elementary school teacher for the next 13 years. Susan later received a certification in teaching children with learning disabilities, and she provided these services for several years while living in Dayton, OH. Susan returned to Minneapolis in 1990. She spent the next many years living in her dream home on Lake Minnetonka. Although she was not a professional home designer, she decorated her house with exquisite taste. It was here that she raised her two sons, the primary focus of her life. She was frequently at both their schools as a teaching assistant and an avid volunteer. Susan was a stay at home mom during this time of her life. Her loving sons, Jeff and Brian, are enormously grateful for it. One of Susan's significant joys was traveling to Hawaii with her parents and both sons. She made as many as 10 trips to the Islands during her life. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Allan and Eunice Musgjerd. She is survived by her son Jeff Cocke of Bloomington and his daughter and her beloved granddaughter Isabella; her son Brian Barnes-Cocke (Ashley) of Seattle, WA; her wonderful Wheaton Terrier Maddie who never left her side until the end; two brothers, Gary Musgjerd (Kathy) and John Musgjerd (Rusty); uncle Dick Musgjerd; cousin Todd Musgjerd; nephews and nieces Scott Musgjerd (Melissa), Mark Musgjerd, Ann Myss (Joe), Grant Musgjerd, and Heather Dionne (Jason), all of the western Minneapolis suburbs; and loving friends. The funeral service will be at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Avenue South, Minneapolis, at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 25. Visitation will begin at Mount Olivet at 1:00 PM. Susan has requested that her ashes be scattered by her sons and granddaughter on the Hawaiian Islands at a future time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Society for the Prevention Cruelty to Animals.
