Robert J. McGuire

McGuire, Robert J. Age 83, of Bloomington, passed away April 18, 2017. Preceded in death by his parents, S.B. and Olivine "Ollie" McGuire, brother James and sister Marjorie. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; daughters Catherine (James) Meder and Beth (Thomas) Theobald; grandchildren Andrew, Alex, Eleanor and Cecelia; his nieces and nephews; many former law colleagues and friends. Born on September 20, 1933, he was raised in Marshall, MN where he graduated from Marshall High School in the top 10 of his class in 1951. He attended the University of St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1958, and helped start a pro bono legal aid service, the first of many charitable causes he supported throughout his lifetime. He went on to join the law firm of his mentor, John Mordaunt, in 1959, which eventually became the law firm of Cousineau, McGuire and Anderson, and where he spent the duration of his legal career as Partner and President until he retired in 1999. An avid golfer, Bob joined the Minneapolis Golf Club in 1967, where he served two terms as President. He loved the game, and was a fierce competitor. He enjoyed reading and watching sports, especially the Vikings and Gophers. He was known as a man of strong faith, great integrity, a true gentleman and a good friend. He especially loved his four grandchildren who were the light of his life. Memorial Mass 11 AM Monday, April 24 2017 with visitation beginning at 10 AM at the Church of St. Patrick, Valley View at Gleason Rd., Edina.
