Sidney A. Buchanan

Buchanan, Sidney A. age 88, of Minneapolis passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He proudly served in the US Army of Occupation in Japan in 1947. He obtained a Bachelor and a Master's degree in Elementary Education, and was an elementary school educator for 35 years. He was first a teacher then a principal at Shingle Creek, Burroughs, Holland, Holmes and Kenny Elementary Schools. Sidney was active in ELEMENS group, and enjoyed "Born Again Jock's" bowling and golfing leagues in retirement. He was a world traveler. Survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Barbara (nee Heffelfinger); son, Bradley (Kathleen), daughter Kimberly (Alvin Krupicka); grandchildren, Andrew, Thomas, Patrick (Heidi), Benton, and great-children Alma and Eleanor. He is also survived by sisters Dorothy Lodahl and Margaret Ann Finke (Richard), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Peter and Wilhelmina Buchanan, brothers Donald, Robert, Waldemar, sisters-in-law Helen, Louise, Dorothy, Marguerite, and Gladys, brothers-in-law James and Paul, and nephews Sean & David, and niece Lisa. Funeral tentatively planned for Friday, March 31 at Fort Snelling Chapel. Detail to follow this week.
