Shelley N Grimes

Grimes, Shelley N. Age 54 of Minneapolis, passed away at sunset on the first day of spring. Shelley took on cancer as she lived life, with grace, strength and determination. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald A. Grimes. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Shannon Carson; daughter, Fiona; mother, Nancy Grimes; siblings, Deidre (John) Campbell, Sean (Andrea Carruthers) Grimes; in-laws, Jack and Melva Carson; friend and mentor, Dwight Anderson; and a wide circle of beloved family and friends. Shelley received her BA from St. Olaf College and earned her PhD in Genetics from the University of Minnesota. She was an associate professor and a research scientist at the U of MN. A woman of science and a woman of faith, Shelley was a proponent of meditation and healing and lived her life accordingly. A consummate researcher, she was also strong-willed, intentional, intelligent and funny. She was imaginative, motivated, mischievous and truly one-of-a-kind. The family thanks the staff of the U of MN Masonic Cancer Center and Station 7D at the East Bank U of MN Medical Center for their compassionate and professional care throughout Shelley's illness. A Service of Celebration will be held at 4:30 pm on Thursday, March 30, at HOLY TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2730 E 31st St with visitation beginning at 3 pm.
