Gary Roger Nathanson

Nathanson, Gary Roger Dec. 8, 1933 - Feb. 23, 2017 Gary "Butzy" Nathanson, age 83, died peacefully in his Santa Monica, CA home surrounded by his loved ones. Gary was born and spent his early years in Minneapolis, where he attended the University of Minnesota. After college he served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Upon his return to the United States he joined the Merrill Lynch investment firm in Minneapolis, later moving to Los Angeles to take over management of the Beverly Hills office of Dupont. In 1973, he retired from the brokerage business and co-founded Hanaco, a real estate investment firm. Gary and his wife Linda (née Rappaport) traveled extensively and enjoyed numerous outdoor activities together. They visited many continents where they golfed, hiked, fished and biked together. They spent their winters in Rancho Mirage, CA and their summers in Aspen, CO. Gary will be remembered for his enormous heart, his incredibly adventurous spirit, his warm sense of humor and his deep love of family. In addition to Linda, he is survived by his four children, Andrea, Debra, Michael and Amy; his brother Geoffrey and his sister Nancy Bloch; his son-in-law Austin Winsberg; his three grandchildren, Kayla, Miles and Wyatt; & his beloved Labradoodle, Rosie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Gary's favorite charities, Stop Cancer, The Aspen Community Foundation and The Music Associates of Aspen.
