Harriet Rake-Johnson

Rake-Johnson, Harriet Age 96, of Eden Prairie, died Feb. 25, 2017 at Castle Ridge Nursing Home. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She is survived by daughters, Shirley Tupper, Karen (David) Kelly; grandsons, Dr. Scott (Dr. Angie) Rake, Lee (Sara) Thernell; grand-daughter, Erin (Kurt) Forth; great-grandchildren, Ali Rake, Tyler Thernell, Harper Mae Thernell; sister, Geraldine Peterson. Harriet was preceded in death by parents, Ella and Archie Frandle; husband of 53 years, Leonard Rake and husband, Norman Johnson; son, Larry Rake; grandson, Eric Rake. Harriet was born in Rake, IA on Nov. 3, 1920. She resided there and married Leonard Rake on Oct. 14, 1939. The town of Rake, IA was named after descendants of Leonard Rake. It was established in 1900 and celebrated its 100th centennial in 2000. Harriet and Leonard moved to the Twin Cities in Oct. 1942. Harriet was a warm-hearted, honest, caring, and fun-loving person. She liked participating in family events. She had been a member of Mount Olivet Church since at least 1962. She belonged to Holly Circle for a number of years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society as well. Harriet liked to play basketball, roller skate, sew, read, travel, cook, and play the saxophone. She traveled to Norway five times, Wales, Scotland, Amsterdam, Spain, Ireland, Copenhagen, France, Belgium, London, and at least 20 of the US states. Leonard worked for Northwest Airlines for 38 years so they traveled a lot. Funeral Service 2 PM Friday, March 3 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave S, Mpls.
