Buxton, Donald Dean Donald Dean Buxton (Don), age 84, of Bloomington, MN, (formerly of Naples, FL and Minnetonka, MN) passed away peacefully on February 17, 2017 at Fairview Southdale Hospital. Don was born on June 9, 1932 in Iowa Falls, IA to Clifford and Frances Buxton. Don graduated high school in Sioux Falls, SD and earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. On August 30, 1953, Don married the love of his life, Veloy Hawkey. Don served in the infantry division of the US Army Reserves in Fort Benning, GA and Ford Ord, CA. Following his military service, Don began a career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company (US West, Qwest, and Comcast), which continued for 36 years, starting as pole climber/management trainee in Pierre, SD. Don worked in a variety of senior leadership positions in Rapid City, Omaha, and Minneapolis, before retiring. Post retirement, Don and Veloy spent their winters in Naples, FL and summers in Minnesota. Don and Veloy enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. They were avid skiers, tennis players and golfers. They traveled extensively with friends and family, instilling a love of exploration and adventure in their children and grandchildren. Don is preceded in death by his parents and Sister Pauline Buxton. Don is survived by Veloy, his loving wife and companion of 63 years, sons Bradley (Bonnie), Brian (Lauren), Rex (Sue), grandchildren Geoff, Abigail Stickney (Kevin), John and Madeline. Memorials preferred to Alzheimer's Association of Minnesota-North Dakota in lieu of flowers. The Buxton family extends our sincere thanks to Dr. Wacker and the entire nursing and ICU staff at Fairview Southdale Hospital. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Village of Bloomington, 8100 Highwood Drive, Bloomington Minnesota on Friday, February 24th at 1:30 PM.
