Manning, Patricia Meile age 90, died peacefully on January 8, at her home in Mahtomedi, MN. Pat was born July 3, 1926, in New Ulm, MN, the daughter of Nelle (Lovelace) Meile and William Frederick Meile. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1944 and from the University of Minnesota in 1972. Throughout her life, Pat maintained active membership in many social, church, and academic groups some of which include: National Honor Society, American Guild of Organists, American Choir Directors Association (ACDA), Sigma Alpha Iota (International Music Fraternity), Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and Older Women's League (OWL). She also actively supported groups her children joined, such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire, Demolay, and Jobs Daughters. Pat was predeceased by her second husband Don Manning and survived by her children and grandchild Patricia Lee (Hanson), Frederick, Jennifer, Kathryn, and James; and Don's children and grandchild Nicholas, Mary Ellen, Vincent and Tony. Pat was a professional organist choir director since her first such job earned at age 16 and continued through her retirement from professional church music in 1985. After her divorce from her first husband, she worked three jobs to support her three dependent children while attending college full time to complete her U of MN bachelor's degree in Music Ed. Cuts in Music Ed funding preempted that career. So she resiliently worked her way up the Ramsey County Human Services employment ladder to a Social Worker position from which she retired in 1989. Her final job duties were to legally advocate for her disabled clients to attain SSI benefits. She and her work partner were pioneers in this now established process. Since retirement, she enjoyed a very social life connecting old friends and acquaintances with each other.
