George Zahhos

Zahhos, George Our most beloved George, age 92, of Minneapolis, passed away December 8, 2016 at home with his family. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Glickeria; sister, Angeline and brother, Tony; son-in-law, Bill; daughter, Niki, and grandson, Nicholas. He founded Waldorf Cleaners with his brother Tony and brother-in-law Jim in 1945 and deeply loved his entire work family. He devoted countless hours to volunteering, whether as a Church Camp director, Church choir member, city councilman for St. Anthony Village, 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, Kiwanis and Lions Club member, committee chair for the building of St. Anthony Village High School, and literally too many others to mention here. Every person who met him came away feeling better and more enthusiastic about his or her own life. One of his many gifts was his ability to connect with all people and positively impact their lives. Highly accomplished professionally and personally, George's love of family, faith, country, community service, and his relentless optimism are embodied better by his own words he wrote in 1983: I live for those who love me, For the hearts that are good & true, For my God that smiles above me, And the good that I can do. For this is the purpose of my life, For my children and for my wife. Merry Christmas, Love, Dad Survived by his beloved wife, Marion, his partner and true love from the first day they met in 1946. Her care, compassion, humor and unbroken love gave him the strength and ability to survive over 33 major surgeries, including cancer and open heart procedures; sister, Elaine; brother, Dan (Bette); children, Connie (Nick), Jim, John; grandchildren, Tia (Richard), John (Katie), Mariya, Louis, Michael (Rose), Nicki, Dena, & Maria; great-grandchildren, Elliot, Charlotte, Nicolas, and Callum George.
