Richard J. 'Dick' Voss

Voss, Richard J. "Dick" Age 77, of Mpls, passed away on the night of December 5th after an 8 month battle with brain cancer. Dick was born in Avoca, MN on July 21, 1939; the 6th of Frank and Clara Voss' 21 children. Following graduation from Slayton High School in 1958, Dick enlisting in the U.S. Navy. After 8 years of active duty he made Minneapolis his home working for the Department of Naval Air Station as well as Immigration Services in St. Paul. He spent most of his career with the Post Office delivering mail and smiles to those in the Loring Park Community. His love of travel brought him to all 50 states and nearly every continent. After retiring from 33 years of Government service at the youthful age of 53, Dick refused to be idle. It was then that he began his true passion, volunteering at virtually every AIDS organization in the Twin Cities. From Walks to Rides to bedsides, Dick spread his joy through his vibrant character and loving energy. An avid cyclist, Dick road/crewed with his Team Oz family in every Twin Cities to Chicago AIDS Ride and MN Red Ribbon Ride. He was a faithful member and employee at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where friends quickly grew into family. His kind heart, generosity and laughter will be missed, but never forgotten. Preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Survived by 15 siblings, many nieces and nephews and countless friends that he considered family. A celebration of life will be held from 5-8 pm on Sunday, December 11th at St. Joan of Arc Church, 4537 3rd Ave S. Mpls. Funeral on Monday, December 12th at 11 am. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am.
