Kiland, Kathryn Mary Age 79, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2016 in Roseville, MN from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Katie was born in Fargo, ND to Herman and Ethel (Cone) Kiland on June 18, 1937. She lived in Moorhead and Minneapolis until her family bought and managed a resort on Lake Kabetogama near Orr, MN. She graduated from Orr High School in 1955. Katie loved collecting antiques. She especially treasured her dolls (some of the most special being the ones she inherited from her mother), miniatures, and her collection of Christmas ornaments and other decorations. She enjoyed the East Calhoun neighborhood of Minneapolis and loved walking, going to garage and estate sales, and gardening in her backyard. She also loved reading the newspaper and nonfiction books (especially about the heroes of World War II), watching old movie musicals, and listening to traditional jazz and WCCO. Katie was preceded by her parents, Herman and Ethel Kiland, and survived by her sons, Bill Bailey and Doug (Karen) Bailey, and her daughter, Betsy Schmidt; her grandchildren, Will Bailey, Blycie Bailey, Griffin Bailey, Jack Bailey, Alex Stoffelmayr, and James Stoffelmayr; her brothers, Ralph "Skip" (Patricia) Kiland, John (Lana) Kiland, and Daniel (Janette) Kiland; several nephews and a niece. Katie leaves many friends in the antique community. She will be lovingly remembered for her kind heart, inspiring independence, and her strong and courageous spirit. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 8th, at 12 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel at Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, MN.
