Maria '(Socorro)' (Pontes de Miranda) Hall

Hall, Maria (Socorro) Pontes de Miranda never wanted anyone to know her age. To her, life was ageless and timelessto be lived with great celebration and joy. She express-ed her philosophy by always being the life of the party, opening her doors to just about anyone and demonstrating a kind, generous spirit in every way possible. Clearly she had the biggest heart in the world and wanted everyone to feel like they were part of her greater family. Born in Brasil, Maria moved to Chicago in the late 1950s and returned to Brasil in the late '80s where she retired. Maria was diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's disease a few years ago and began slowly losing her independence, although her sparkle and beauty continued to shine with everyone she encountered. On October 26, 2016, she succumbed to this life, dying of septic shock. You might say she decided to take the party somewhere else! Maria's now at peace in heaven, no doubt having as much fun there as she did here on earth. Maria (Socorro) was survived by so many wonderful friends and family: her children Michael Hall, Richard Hall and Lili Hall Scarpa; her son-in-law Andrea Scarpa; grandchildren Blake Weston Hall, Gabriella Scarpa, Alessandra Scarpa, and great-granddaughter Rose Weston Hall. Maria was blessed with siblings when her father Manoel Miranda (2014) married Rita and they had three children: Ana Rita, Manoel Miranda Junior and Andreza. They all took such good care of her in Brasil. To celebrate Maria's life, a memorial Mass will be held on December 3rd, 2016, at 9 a.m. at The Basilica of Saint Mary, 1600 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55403, followed by brunch at a nearby location. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the N. Bud Grossman Center for Memory Research and Care at the University of Minnesota, or donor's choice.
