Roger Vern Wubbena

Wubbena, Roger Vern passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 63, on a sunny fall day October 24, 2016. Roger was preceded in death by parents Vern and Gertrude. Also, by grandparents Henry and Hertha Wubbena and Mema and Blanche Mehmen. Roger will be remembered most by his best friend and wife for more than 38 years, Karen S. (Hess) Wubbena, sons Jeremiah, Joshua (Laura), Michael (Linda), and his beloved grandchildren, Andrew and Kathryn, siblings Duane Wubbena (Christine), and Doris Dilger (John). Additionally he will be missed by many other family members and friends. Roger Vern Wubbena was born Jan. 12, 1953 in Waverley, Iowa to Vern and Gertrude Wubbena. Roger spent the early part of his life growing up on the family farm. It was there that he developed a strong work ethic with high standards. Roger began school in a one room schoolhouse near Bremer County Iowa. After graduating from Waverley Shell Rock High School in 1971, he entered the army. Just avoiding a trip to Vietnam, he served his career in Germany. Shortly after discharge, in 1974, he settled in the Minneapolis area. This is where he met his lifelong companion, Karen. They were married on October 21, 1978. In 1995, a carpenter by trade, Roger built his family a home. He enjoyed his many years working and raising his three sons in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Although he transitioned out of farming into a career as a carpenter, a part of his heart was left on the farm he grew up on, leaving a bit of country within him. Never forgetting his roots, he returned often to visit family and friends still living in the area. Roger was a dedicated, loving, kind, faithful and generous man. Although often seen as portraying a gruff exterior, Roger had a heart of gold. He often surprised those he knew with gifts, just because he was thinking of them.
