James Raymond Zosel

Zosel, James Raymond Our beloved Jim, age 87, of Mpls., passed away peacefully at home Oct. 20, 2016 in his sunlit dining room, surrounded by family, prayers and music, as he had requested. Through his work as a veterinarian, Episcopal priest, chemical dependency counselor, and MCAD professor, Jim deeply touched scores of people during his rich and blessed life, including ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Jim was an artist, traveler, gardener, musician, biker, baker, and more. He listened with his eyes, smiled with his heart, and embraced you with his loving soul. His compassion for his fellow man was sincere, selfless and authentic. Whether friend or stranger, Jim treated you with respect and kindness, all while imparting a wry sense of humor, so important in the Zosel family. To Jim, humor was the necessary cushion against the daily rigors of life. Born March 29, 1929, and raised at the beginning of the Great Depression in Wadena, MN. He met Nan, the love of his life, while at the U of M studying veterinary medicine in the early 1950s They married in 1952, and together raised five children (Tom, Scott, Mike, Mary, Tony). Jim resided in south Mpls on Fremont Avenue with Nan at his side for over 42 years, stubbornly independent, embracing his dignity, living life at its fullest until his passing. He will be missed.
