Phyllis R. Straughn

Straughn, Phyllis R. Age 97, of Saint Paul, formerly of Golden Valley. Born Feb. 28, 1919, in Charles City, Iowa, to Otha and Ruth (Towner) Main. Died Oct. 14, 2016, after a brief illness. Survived by children, Robert III (Mavis) of Saint Paul, Eric (Maxine) of Champlin, and Linda (David) Denney of Las Vegas, Nevada; 6 grandchildren, Megan (Peter) Begley, Katy (Bradley) Adams, Lorna (Steven) Bock, Erin (Matthew) Phillips, Jordan (Whitney) Denney, SPC Stephen (Summer Greene) Denney; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Marianne Main; and 2 nieces, Deborah (Dale) Gyolai and Nancy (Larry) Hanson. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jr.; brother, David T. Main; and nephew David A. Main. She was a graduate in Home Economics at Iowa State University. Her husband was a research food engineer at General Mills, and after he passed Phyllis became a consumer respondent with General Mills where she fielded food preparation questions. She was known in the family as the epitome of Betty Crocker. Phyllis was a member of the Mother Singers choral group, Golden Valley Garden Club and Golden Valley Women's Club, and a volunteer in many other community and church activities. She enjoyed music, dancing, bowling, and golf, and traveled extensively after retirement. She was a loving mother and homemaker known for her dry wit. Visitation 4-6 PM Sunday, Oct. 23rd at ST. ANTHONY PARK LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2323 Como Ave, St. Paul. Funeral Service 11 AM Monday, Oct. 24th (visitation 10 AM) also at ST. ANTHONY PARK LUTHERAN CHURCH. Private Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
