James Stephen '(Steve)' Demoret

Demoret, James Stephen (Steve) age 72 b. July 24, 1944 of Backus, MN formerly of Crystal, MN originally of Hutchinson KS, passed away September 30, 2016 at the MSK Hospice Home in Chaska MN where he and his family received the great gift of care and support in his final days in his battle with cancer. Preceded in death by parents William and Lola (Uncapher) Demoret, and brother David Demoret, all of Hutchinson KS; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Gerri Petterson of Hackensack, MN. Survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kathleen "Kathy" (Petterson); daughter Stacy (Lyndon) Colebrook-Robjent; son, Stephen "Steve" (Amy) Demoret; grandchildren James, Julia, and Kathryn "Katie" Colebrook-Robjent, and Lauren and Nicholas "Nick" Demoret; brothers and sisters from Kansas, Robert (Vicki) Demoret and Daniel Demoret, Carolyn Dority and Sue Gore; in-laws Henry (Donna) Petterson, Tom Harris, Linda (Ralph) Bechtle, and Jill (Victor) Burlingame; and many wonderful nieces and nephews all dear to "Uncle Steve". Steve served in the US Navy (1963 - 1967) where he met wife Kathy while attending the electronics technician school in Great Lakes, IL.They settled in Minnesota to raise their children and start their careers. Steve continued his education ultimately becoming a Master Electrician, working in downtown Minneapolis (Sterling, Common Wealth, and Mulnix Electric). He was a proud retiree of the IBEW Local 292. Many of his best stories and funniest jokes were about and derived from his fellow tradesmen. After retirement he and Kathy moved to their home on a picturesque bay of Big Portage Lake, near Backus MN, where he enjoyed family visits, being on the pontoon, and riding around on his John Deere. He continued to make pilgrimages to "the cities" to watch his grandkids play their sports. Steve was the rock of his family, a loving husband and father, quick with a joke, and generous to a fault. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 10, at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior, Cremation Society of MN, Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina, 952-924-4100. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
