Joan Helen (Salak) McPhee

McPhee, Joan Helen Salak age 85 of St. Louis Park, died September 29th, 2016 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born November 16, 1930, in Schuyler, NE to Russell D. Salak and Vlasta Janecek. Preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 64 years, Harvey J. McPhee (8-18-16), and brother John Salak. Survived by sister, Jeanine Salak RSM and seven children: Matt, Mary, Monica, Anne, Paula, Charles and Frank; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Joan graduated from Schuyler High School, moved to Omaha working at Creighton University, where she met her beloved husband. They married in 1952 and moved to North Platte, NE where oldest son Matt was born. She moved to Minneapolis and settled in St. Louis Park in the late 1950's where she raised her seven children and volunteered her time at church. Her faith, love of God and church were an important part of her life. Joan was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Joan was an exceptionally sweet, kind, loving, caring, forgiving, generous, and gracious woman who taught us all to be better people. Joan was an exquisite cook, frequently entertaining large family gatherings, and avid gardener tending her tulips, irises and lilies. Reading and playing the piano were passions, as well her fondness for nature, particularly for the variety of birds that visited her yard. Joan will be greatly missed by all and will be eternally loved by her family. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, Oct. 6, 10:30 AM with visitation 1/2 hour prior at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5900 W. Lake St, Mpls. Luncheon to follow.
