Janice M. DuPont

DuPont, Janice M. "A Wonderful Life." Janice M. DuPont, age 87, died peacefully on September 29, 2016 surrounded by her family. Jan was born on August 24, 1929 on a farm in Chanhassen, MN, the youngest of 9 children of John and Agnes Sinnen Welter. She attended Guardian Angels High School in Chaska, MN where she met her loving husband and best friend of 64 years, Jerome "Bill" DuPont. They married at St. Hubert's Catholic Church in Chanhassen, MN on February 23, 1952 and eventually moved to Bloomington, MN where she (and Bill) raised their 6 children. Jan ran a small business and volunteered at her church, her children's schools, and the local nursing home. Jan and Bill's marriage was a true love story to the end. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, playing a caring and active role in her children and grandchildren's lives up to her death. Jan was a kind, gentle, patient, and gracious soul, with a knock out smile and sparkling blue eyes. Jan had a strong faith and by her example taught us all to be better people. Jan was an outstanding host, often opening her home to family, friends, neighbors, and passersby. On Thanksgiving her "dressing" and "pumpkin pies" were legendary, as were her Christmas Tree Decorating Parties, and lively "Dinner" club gatherings. No one will ever forget her "famous & delicious" divinity. When not spending time with family or friends, Jan was an avid walker, reader, gardener, and Minnesota Twins fan. She possessed a quick wit and a fantastic sense of humor. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Welter, and her siblings, Eleanore (Sr. Linnea, OSB), Dorothy, Helen, Gus, Esther (Sr. Michelle, OSB), Jim, and Norbert. Jan is survived by her loving husband Bill; her six children: Tom (Mary), Steve (Lori), Mark (Kate), Michelle (Scott) Johnson, Mike (Meghan), Pete (Mandy); her sixteen grandchildren, and her brother, Jerry Welter and sister-in-law Gladys Lebens. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Special thanks to the loving caregivers at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN and Friendship Village in Bloomington, MN and her compassionate physician, Dr. Maggie McEvoy. Jan was a true hero. Going about her life in a simple manner, loving her husband, children, and friends and through her actions and example making the world a better place. Jan will be greatly missed and forever loved by her family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, October 10th, 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, 305 E. 77th St. Richfield, MN.
