Brunner, Inez Julia (nee Oelkers) passed away peacefully on September 20th at St. Gertrude's Health Care Facility in Shakopee, MN. She was a lifelong resident of Zumbrota, MN until she entered St. Gertrude's in 2015. Inez was born on February 10, 1921 in Zumbrota and raised by her parents on the family farm. She married Raymond Brunner, her best friend and love of her life on March 11, 1945. Together they operated Ray's Café in Zumbrota for 36 years before retiring in 1981. Inez was active in many community organizations and was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church for over 60 years. Known for her strong faith, kindness, generosity and commitment to serving the community, she will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew her. Inez was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, brother Arnold Oelkers and parents Gustave and Julia Oelkers. Inez is survived by six children, Julie Brunner (Dale Ulrich), Janet Riley (Dale), JoEllen Buzinec (Nick), Jay Brunner (Katie Cavanor), Jon Brunner (Terri) and Anita Mendez (Fernando). She is also missed and deeply loved by her 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Inez's family extends a special thank you to St. Gertrude's staff for their compassion and exceptional care. A memorial service will be held at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota on Saturday, October 8th at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be held at the church two hours prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to United Redeemer Lutheran Church, Caringbridge or your local food shelf.
