Roy W. Johnson

Johnson, Roy W. Age 92 (b. Dec 7, 1923) of Plymouth, originally of Park Ridge, IL passed away September 19, 2016 of cancer. Preceded in death by parents, Sigrid (nee Jorgensen) and John Johnson originally of Oslo, Norway; brothers, John and Henry; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Donnelly. Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley (nee Lowe); daughters, Diane (Gordon) Fredeen, and Janet (Scott) Wolter; grandchildren, Ryan Donnelly (Ryan Kincaid), Lindsay (Erik) Ebeling, Grant Wolter, Amanda Wolter, and three great grandchildren, Hayley, Dylan and Mason Ebeling. Roy grew up during the Depression and served in WWII as a U.S. Merchant Marine after attending Kings Point Academy. He also received his MBA degree from the University of Chicago, and began his long business career with Aldens in Chicago, then was transferred to Minnesota in 1968 to Gambles Corp in St. Louis Park. After moving from the Chicago area, Roy and Shirley raised their three girls in Eden Prairie on beautiful Bryant Lake and eventually moved to Kingswood in Plymouth. They also built a cabin near Garrison on Round Lake. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle as well as an avid golfer, fisherman, handyman, and Vikings football fan. He loved acting as the "camp director" for all the kids on family vacations. He also loved animals and had many pets over the years. Roy was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and was often heard saying, "Uff da!" with a slip of the hammer while working in his garage at his beloved workbench. The family wishes to thank the staff and Optage hospice team at Presbyterian Homes Folkestone (Arbor) in Wayzata for their wonderful care of and affection for Roy during the last two years of his life, as well as the continued care of Shirley.
