Romelle Lee (Toppel) Pier

Pier, Romelle Lee (née Toppel) of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the age of 72. Romelle was born November 21, 1943 in Sparta, WI to Marjorie Humphrey and Lee Roy Toppel. She was Valedictorian of her high school class, and went to the University of Wisconsin Madison where she earned her BS in Education and an MBA in Marketing. In 1966, she married her college sweetheart, Craig Pier, and had two sons, Bryce and Brent. She taught business courses in both WI and MN, most recently retiring from over 25 years of teaching at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. She was an enthusiastic volunteer for many groups, including the Steeple People Thrift Store, United Methodist Women's Group, the Old Highland Neighborhood Association, the United Methodist Senior Council, and yearly mission trips to Sager-Brown. Preceded in death by parents, Marjorie Helen (Humphrey) Lane, Lee Roy Toppel, and stepfather Robert Lane. Survived by husband Craig Pier; children Bryce (Kelly) Pier and Brent (Alissa) Pier; grandchildren she adored, Menolly, Brennan, Maeryn, & Lucian; and spoiled cat "BW" (ingrate). Also survived by extended family. Visitation will take place at the Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church in Minneapolis on September 3rd at 1pm, followed by a Service at 2pm, and a Luncheon between the hours of 3-5pm. The family would like to request that you bring a photo or memory of Romelle (writings, drawings, etc), to be assembled into a book for the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church denoting either "UMCOR" or "Steeple People" as the ministry of choice.
