Shirley and Roy Almen

Almen, Shirley Jean (Johnson) Almen, Roy Emanuel, PhD. Shirley, dear wife of Roy, died peacefully at home at age 87, on July 14, 2016, surroun-ded by loved ones, with husband Roy holding her hand. Shirley is remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Shirley met Roy at Northwestern Bible College where she taught French and Spanish. After teaching and raising their children, Shirley and Roy ran a family business, Nordic Imports, which allowed them to travel extensively throughout Scandinavia and Europe. Shirley and Roy were married for 63 years and both cherished the love and many blessings they shared. Together they raised four children, and were also blessed with four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Roy, devoted husband of Shirley, passed away peacefully at home at age 87, with family at his side, on July 16, 2016, following his sweetheart home to the Lord. Roy proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He began his career as a radio broadcast engineer and announcer, and taught in the Minneapolis Public Schools for over 30 years. Roy was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who inspired others through his quiet example of faith, charity and hard work. Preceded in death by parents Axel and Inga Almen, Seymour and Gunhild Johnson, and Roy's brother John. Survived by Shirley's brother Alden Johnson, children Greg, Heidi, Susan and Tim (Suzanne), grand-children Erik (Danielle), Erica, Aimee and Greta, and great-grandchild Annali. We rejoice that they are together forever. They will be dearly missed. Memorials preferred to the cartercenter.org or worldvision.org. A memorial service for both will be held at Washburn-McReavy's Glen Haven Chapel (5125 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55429) on Saturday, September 3rd, 2016.
