Thomas M. Brown

Brown, Thomas M. Age 85, of Hopkins, Minnesota, passed away July 15, 2016 after a brave fight with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Jane, by his brothers Robert and Paul "Fritz", and by his nephew Bill Brown. Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Barbara, their two children Tamzin (Gene) and Christopher (Lucy), grandchildren Molly (Cam) Porter, Christopher Munson, Timothae (Garth) Munson Harvey and many beloved nieces and nephews. Born September 15, 1930 in Minneapolis. Tim graduated from Blake School, University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Law School. In March 1955, Tim and Bobbie Barber were married and moved to Marin County, where Tim served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate's Corps at Hamilton AFB, Novato, CA. Daughter Tamzin was born in 1957, and the family moved back to Minneapolis, where Tim joined the firm of Dorsey, Owen, Barker, Scott & Barber. Son Christopher was born in 1960. As a young corporate attorney for Dorsey in the 1960's, Tim worked with clients including Tonka Toys, the Minnesota Twins, and Ottertail Power Company. Tim's favorite legal accomplishment was being the inspiration for jazz pianist Dave Frishberg's "My Attorney Bernie", written on the occasion of Tim's 25th anniversary with the Dorsey firm. Tim and Bobbie were vibrant patrons of the Twin Cities arts scenes as well as champions of other community organizations. Tim was a warm and wonderful son and brother, husband and father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved his family, travel and adventure, good food and wine, music and the theater. He could always be counted on to come through for you. We will miss him dearly. Memorial Service to be held on July 29, 2016, at 2 pm at Plymouth Congregational Church, Minneapolis. Memorials preferred to St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, MacPhail School of Music, Humane Society of Hennepin County.
