Mary Evelyn (Clark) Fry

Fry, Mary Evelyn (Clark) Passed gently at her home in Minneapolis supported by family and friends on July 17 at age 83. Born on Oct. 26, 1932 in Fargo, North Dakota, her warmth and generosity touched lives all over the world. Mary grew up in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, where she met her husband Art Fry. Mary and Art lovingly raised three children, Melisa, Julia and Tom in North St. Paul. Mary was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities throughout her lifetime. She was the interim director of Clearwater Forest from '80 to 82 and was a current member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. Her devotion to children infused a career spanning more than 5 decades, teaching pre-school through fifth grade, and led her to live and work in Minneapolis, North St. Paul, Saudi Arabia, New York City and Berkeley, California before returning to Minneapolis in 2012. Her life was enriched by many close friendships. Mary had a gift for correspondence and shared her passions for gardening, music, baseball, the arts, sewing, knitting, and games with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Ruth Clark and her sisters Kathy Fritch and Ruth Kamena. She is survived by daughters Melisa Pollak (husband David) of Minneapolis, Julia Fry of Oakland, California and son Tom Fry (wife Polly) of St. Louis Park, and 5 grandchildren: Julian Chytrowski, Isaac Pollak, Adelle Pollak, Nolan Fry, Ruby Fry, ex-husband Art Fry of Maplewood, Minnesota, brother-in-law Don Fritch of Durango, Colorado and cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be dearly missed by all who were blessed by both her love of adventure and depth of caring. Donations to Westminster Church in lieu of flowers will be directed to the Saturday Friends Mission program serving the homeless community in Minneapolis. A celebration of her life will be held at the Westminster Church Chapel in Minneapolis on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016 at 10:00 am.
