Dr. Edward Wallace Rutledge

Rutledge, Dr. Edward Wallace Age 65, of Saint Paul, Minnesota, passed away on June 29th, 2016. Ed was born on October 24th, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri to Eva Jean and Herbert Wallace Rutledge. Ed spent the majority of his childhood in Vincennes, Indiana, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1968. After studying Aeronautical Engineering at Purdue University and obtaining a B.S. in Chemistry from Indiana University in 1971, Ed graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1975. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Bronson Borgess Hospital and fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Ed specialized in foot and ankle surgery. He spent the majority of his career working in Level One Trauma Centers at Regions Hospital and Hennepin County Medical Center. He published a variety of articles pertaining to his specialty and was an annual speaker at the HCMC conference. Ed was a caring individual and volunteered with Orthopaedics Overseas at the Afghan Trauma Center in Peshawar, Pakistan. He was a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and House of Hope Presbyterian Church. Ed enjoyed wildlife and the outdoors, including hiking, canoeing, birdwatching and spending time at the cabin in Ely, Minnesota. He was a prolific reader and an accomplished pianist who could play both classical compositions and jazz improvisations. His compassion and animated sense of humor will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Bob; and brother-in-law, Dan. Survived by his wife, Lori Rutledge; son, William Rutledge; daughter, Annamarie Rutledge; sisters, Jane (Kent) Flummerfelt, Nancy (Shannon) Swan; brother, David Rutledge; mother-in-law, Judy Mohar; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debra (Steven) Garofalo, Robert (Renee) Mohar, James (Martha) Mohar, Michael (Karina) Mohar; and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. A memorial service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, July 30 with visitation 10-12pm at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Avenue, Saint Paul.
