Jon Lee Willand

Willand, Jon Lee age 75, died June 28, 2016 at his home in Minneapolis after a long illness. He was born July 4, 1940 in Madison, (Lac qui Parle County) Minnesota to Clarence Willand and Otevia Boraas Willand. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son Mark Anund Willand. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Lois Carlson Willand, daughters Tona L. Willand and Martha C. Willand and fiancé Adam Entringer, sister Janet Willand and Linda Brummer. Jon graduated from Madison High School, from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, the University of South Dakota, Vermillion and pursued post-graduate work at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. As an historian he taught at North Hennepin Community College from its inception in 1966 through 2003. A lifelong researcher and writer, he wrote "Lac qui Parle and the Dakota Mission", local histories of Lac qui Parle County and some of its towns, and was writing a family history of the extended Boraas family in Norway and the U.S. He was a man of many interests and wrote extensively in support of his causes. Services will be July 5 at the Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Chapel, 5125 West Broadway, in the Minneapolis suburb of Crystal. Visitation at 1 p.m., funeral 2 p.m. lunch following, and a second service in Madison, Minnesota on July 7 at Faith Lutheran Church; visitation at 10 a.m., service 11 a.m., and burial in Hegre Cemetery in rural Lac qui Parle County, followed by lunch.
