Lois M. Kelley

Kelley, Lois M. Lois Mae (McMahon) Kelley died peacefully in her sleep on April 17, 2014. She was married to Paul B. Kelley for 64 years; he was with her at the time of her death. Lois led a rich and active life until her passing. She was born September 28, 1928 to William and Ruth McMahon and had 9 brothers and sisters. She grew up in Minnetonka, Minnesota and attended Hopkins High School where she met Paul. They were married in 1950 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Quonset Hut in Glen Lake. Lois was Paul's partner in life and business. They raised seven children. She maintained the books and records for numerous family businesses over the years, from motels to real estate investments. She was an amazing cook and hostess, learning to cook Mexican and Chinese food in the early 1960s, before diverse cuisines were fashionable. She loved hosting gatherings that ranged from impromptu conversations for a few friends to large picnics that followed the Hopkins Raspberry Parade. In addition to being a mom and a business partner, Lois made communities better. She was active in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Minnetonka, chairing volunteer activities and attending services. She helped to organize her high school class reunions. She supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Save the Children and the ICA Food Shelf, among other causes. Her husband Paul and her children, Steve (Sophie), David, Kathy Holschuh, Jim, Nancy Smith, Susie Torgerson and Linda (Mike Dysart); along with 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, mourn her passing and celebrate the presence of her love and spirit in their lives. A celebration of Mom's life has been held. The family suggests memorial gifts to the ICA Food Shelf, 2990 St. Davids Rd, Minnetonka, MN 55305, Special Olympics Minnesota, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
