Hendon, Coleridge Taylor 94, of Minneapolis passed away surrounded by his immediate family on April 17, 2014. He was born on January 31, 1920, to Theodore (T.R.) and Mae McMillan Hendon in Indianapolis, IN, and later moved to Chicago, IL, where he graduated from DuSable High School. His mother Mae, father T.R., step- mother Thelma, sister Marguerite Digit, niece Odessa Edwards, and nephew William Orville Ross preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernese Myers Hendon; brother, Edmund (Deb) Hendon; son, Ira (Janice) Hendon; daughter, Colnese Hendon; granddaughter, Shanya (Jonathan) Carter; grandsons, Billy (Pud) Jones and Silky Richardson Hendon; seven great-grandchildren, nephews, Norval Edwards and Robert Scales (Johnnie); niece, Paula Ross, and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. Coleridge was a graduate of Central State University in Wilberforce, OH, a veteran of World War II and a long-time member of Zion Baptist Church, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Omicron Boule, Monitors Club, 40 Club, and NAACP. He worked as a draftsman for Electric Machinery and retired from Northwestern National Bank where he was a loan officer. Throughout his life he remained active in the community and supported many worthy causes, including Amicus and Children's Home Society. The funeral service will take place on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 2600 E. 38th Street, Minneapolis, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m., service at 12 noon, and interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
