Florence 'Floss' Romanek

Romanek, Florence "Floss" (Zechoski) Florence ‘Floss’ (Zechoski) Romanek passed away Monday April 14, 2014 at Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born November 23, 1930 in Cloquet to John and Bernice (Billiter) Zechoski and was a lifelong resident. Floss graduated from Cloquet High School in 1948 and began her working career with Johnson Bros. Clothing Store, NW Paper, Reliable Investments, and was secretary to the Administrator of the Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. She married Steve "Cubby" Romanek May 9, 1953 and together they owned and operated Romanek Vending Service for 23 years. Floss (along with Cubby) managed their daughter Renata's all-girl polka band. Floss handled the record sales, correspondence, and on top of that did all the driving for the girls, logging over a half million miles (driving van then motor coach) in the eight and a half years the group was together. Floss was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and formerly belonged to the Polish Church choir, St. Casimir's where she is remembered for the beautiful Polish duets at Midnight mass. She was a lifelong member of both the VFW Auxiliary Post 3979 and the Disabled American Veterans Association (DAV). The family would like to thank the staff of the Chris Jensen facility for the four and half years of their loving and compassionate care. Floss sends lots of smiles and kisses their way. Floss was preceded in death by her parents John and Bernice; sister Lucille A. Nordman; God child Scott Nordman. She is survived by her husband Steve "Cubby"; daughter Renata (Kevin) Crowley; grandson Joseph "Whit"; step-grandson Matt (Jessie) Crowley; step-grandchildren Hunter and Haley.
