Brown, Dr. Harry J. "Doc" Age 90, of Mpls, passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2014 surrounded by family. Beloved father, teacher & coach. Harry's life was devoted to teaching and coaching others in a positive manner. He spent 35 years as a teacher in the Mpls Public Schools, retiring in 1985. He earned a Doctorate in Philosophy from the U of M in 1970. His true passion in life was Hockey. Harry was a powerful advocate for improvements in several hockey programs and organizations. He worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for hockey players at all levels in MN. Harry scouted for the Boston Bruins from 1967-1975, the Bruins won the Stanley Cup twice during his tenure. Harry was also inducted into the MN Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame in 2012. Harry also served in the US Naval Coast Guard during WWII. He was commissioned on U.S.S. LST-832 also known as "The Mad Hooligan" from 1943-1946. Preceded in death by parents, Mattie & Harry Brown; Brother, Charlie Brown; Grandchildren, Rick Jaros & Jennifer Schmitz. Survived by Sister, Catherine Prachar; former spouse of 45 years, Mary; Children, Rose Scheremet, Colleen (Pete) Schmitz, Joe Brown, Jim (Jeanne) Brown, Margaret Kolstad, Cathy Smith, Patty Brown-Jaros, John (Barb) Brown, Mary Brown, Jenny (Dave) Haslerud, Heather (Marcus) Dahl, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral service to be held Saturday, May 17th, 2014, 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Albert's Catholic Church, 2836 33rd Ave Mpls. Celebration of Life/"Hockey Night" starting at 4:30 PM (luncheon) K of C Hall 1114 American Blvd W, Bloomington. Memorials preferred. Private interment at Ft. Snelling Cemetery.
