Long, Marlys J. Age 82 of Plymouth; formerly of Redfield, SD passed away April 17, 2014. Marlys graduated from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD with a teaching certificate. Her first job was teaching second grade in Redfield where she met her husband, Denzel. After his sudden death in 1970, Marlys courageously raised their three sons (aged 12, 10 and 5) by herself, aided by the kindness of several close friends. Marlys was very happy and proud to see all her sons succeed in their careers and personal lives. After moving from SD to Plymouth to be near her boys, she enjoyed 12 years of friendship with her Gramercy Park neighbors. Marlys loved playing bridge and keeping track of her grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Denzel. Survived by sons, John (Jennine), Richard (Aaron) and Michael (Sheila); grandchildren, Kelsey, Natalie and Erin. In lieu of memorials, the family asks that you hug those dear to you and tell them that you love them. Memorial Service at Messiah United Methodist Church, 17805 County Rd 6, Plymouth on Fri., April 25. time TBD.
