Isao East Oshima

Oshima, Isao East took his final trip home on May 24, 2016 at age 95. East was born in Berkeley, CA on April 20, 1921. After leaving Topaz Internment Camp in Utah with his kind and gentle spirit intact, he moved to Ohio to work with blueprints in a foundry. East moved to Minnesota after visiting his sisters and starting working at Thermo King Corp where he remained for 43 years until his retirement. At 65 years old, he started his second "career" at the YMCA. He could be found at the pool 6 days per week, every week, every year for 30 years. East cherished his friends at the "Y". East was a Polish Hop trophy winner who met his life long dance partner, Carmel, at the Prom Ballroom where they danced the nights away together. Their dance continued for 48 years. He is survived by his wife Carmel, siblings May Takayanagi, Rae Komoto and Don Oshima, as well as many other family members and friends. Funeral to be held Saturday, May 28, 11:00 AM at St Thomas the Apostle Church, 2914 W 44th St., Mpls 55410. Visitation 1 hour prior to service.
