Swanson, Virginia Hannah Age 89 of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2016. Born in Minneapolis, MN she was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Hewitt B. Hannah and Edna M. Hannah, and her brother Jim Hannah. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Donald, son Donald (Susan) Swanson, Jr., daughters Cynthia Swanson and Janet (Scott) Webster, five special grandchildren Lisa (George) Kalantzakis, Thomas Webster, Stephanie (Giorgio Mosoni) Swanson, Stuart (Maureen Macken) Lindgren and Timothy Webster, sisters-in-law Rosemary Hannah and Sally (Ray) Gleason, and many nieces and nephews who were dear to her. Virginia graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis, attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, and earned a BS in Education from the University of Minnesota. She married Don in 1948 and together they raised their three children first in Texas and later in Hopkins, MN. Virginia devoted her time to her home and children, their activities and interests, and to supporting her husband's rising career at General Mills, Inc. She was a long time member of Wayzata Country Club in Minneapolis and Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples. She traveled extensively with her husband Don in their later years, including 57 cruises. Virginia was a strong, elegant and caring woman. She had an incredible recall for birthdays and special dates. She loved her family and friends, and talking with them by phone was the highlight of her final years. She was a wonderful hostess for many holiday gatherings on Lake Minnetonka and for family and friends who visited her in Naples, FL. Special to her were members of the 49th Street Gang, neighborhood girlfriends from her childhood in south Minneapolis. She was blessed with a wonderful life and others were blessed with having her as part of theirs. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, May 31 at Lakewood Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, PO Box 38, Columbus, Ohio 43216, or to donor's favorite charity.
