Maurine, Georgia Florence (Pohl) 93 died May 2, 2016 at St. Gertrude's in Shakopee. She was a long time resident of Shakopee. Georgia was born in St. Paul October 31, 1922 and graduated from Macalester College. She began her teaching career in Atwater, MN, where she met Rudolph George Maurine (deceased) and they married in 1946. After teaching in Atwater the family moved to Norwood, MN and eventually settled in Shakopee in 1960. As her children grew older she resumed teaching at the Catholic elementary schools until her retirement in 1988. In her family were 4 children, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Daughter Suzanne Balzer, Minneapolis, grandson Mitchell and wife Geni Balzer and great-grandchildren Micah and Jonah of Laguna Nigel, CA. Daughter Pat of Maplewood. Son Rudolph (deceased). Son Michael and wife Laure Skluzacek and granddaughter Samantha of Douglasville, GA. She was also supported by very special friend Kelly Blaiser, her neighbors, friends and former students in Shakopee. She enjoyed bird watching from her back windows, gardening, reading novels and listening to classical music. She was very proud of her teaching career especially when she taught children of previous students. We want to thank the staff of St. Gertrude's and St. Francis for the compassionate care she received. The family will greet friends from 4:30-6:00 pm May 5 in the St. Mark's Social Hall, 350 S. Atwood St., Shakopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Church of St. Mark. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Carver-Scott Humane Society or Shakopee Area Catholic School (sacsschools.org) in her name.
