John T. Gabos

Gabos, John T. of Glendale, WI. Born to eternal life on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the age of 93. He was born December 17, 1922 in Mount Pleasant, PA. The 3rd of eight children born to the late John and Theresa Kendi Gabos. John is survived by his brother, Dr. Paul F. Gabos (Molly) of Pittsburgh, PA; his five children, Elaine T. Hills (Rick) of Oconomowoc, WI, John S. Gabos (Christine) of Wayzata, MN, Mary R. Walsh (Michael) of Gurnee, IL, William R. Gabos, of St. Louis Park, MN, Mark N. Gabos (Julie) of Plymouth, MN. Further survived by 18 grandchildren, Johnny, Freddie, Kurt, Paulina, Shannon, Kaitlin, Sean, Keenan, Brenna, Quinn, Jillian, Joseph, Nathan, Tess, Jeanie, Kyle, Kendall, and Cole. Preceded in death by his wife Frances Hendrickson Gabos, originally from Minneapolis, MN; his sisters, Betty Ferrari, Irene Gabos, Theresa Gabos, brothers, Dr. Charles Gabos, Richard Gabos, and Robert Gabos. Further survived by many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. John was raised in Mt. Pleasant, PA where he attended Ramsay High School. He was an excellent student and outstanding athlete lettering in football, baseball, and wrestling. He fought in WWII participating in the Battle of the Bulge where his unit was awarded the Bronze Star. He received a second Bronze Star for heroism while serving as a medic in war time. He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan where he served as president of the Sigma Chi fraternity and also lettered in baseball. John then played professional baseball rising to Class AA with the Chicago White Sox and then decided on a career with the Travelers Insurance Company. Our parents taught us the meaning of integrity and character and that the best place to be was in a loving family. The legacy they left behind has made our world a better place. We love you Mom & Dad. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 7th at St. Catherine's of Alexandria Catholic Church, W359N8512 Brown Street, Oconomowoc, WI. Visitation 10 AM, Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM. A celebration of John's life immediately following at Oconomowoc Golf Club, W360N5261 Brown Street, Oconomowoc, WI. John will be buried alongside his beloved wife at St. Joan of Arc Cemetery, Oconomo-woc, WI. Gratitude to the Aurora Zilber family Hospice for their merciful care in dad's final days.
