Sylvia Marie (Frost) Fisher

Fisher, Sylvia Marie (Frost) Age 93 of Edina. Pass- ed away on February 9, 2016. Sylvia was born July 4, 1922 to Clara and Alfred Frost in Withee, Wisconsin. She graduated from Withee High School in 1940. Sylvia initially attended Grandview College in Des Moines, Iowa and went on to graduate from Eau Claire State Teacher's College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin earning a Bachelor of Science degree. Sylvia received a special provision allowing her to begin teaching elementary school (in Wausau Wisconsin) while finishing her last two years of college. On September 24, 1945, Sylvia and William (Bill) Fisher were married in Withee, Wisconsin. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa where Sylvia taught school and where their two daughters, Cheryl and Janiece, were born. In 1955, Sylvia and Bill moved to Minneapolis where she taught school in the Minneapolis school system. Most of her years teaching in Minneapolis were spent at Kenny Elementary, in the fourth or fifth grades. She taught for more than 30 years, retiring in 1983 and found teaching very rewarding and something she loved to do. While living in Minneapolis, Sylvia and Bill were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They moved to Bloomington in 1962, and became active members of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Bill passed away in 1987. In 2008, Sylvia moved from her Bloomington home to 7500 York in Edina, where she enjoyed a variety of activities and being with many good friends. Sylvia and Bill loved traveling and experienced many wonderful trips together in their 42 years of married life. Sylvia volunteered with many organizations throughout her life and serving others was very important to her. Some of the organizations include Meals on Wheels, Loaves and Fishes, Martin Luther Manor Adult Day Care, Rocking Reader and Quilt Makers at St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Clara Frost, her husband, Bill, and brothers, Vernon and Ken. Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Jack) Hultstrand and Janiece (James) Scott, four grandchildren, Rebecca (Rick) Vossen, Lissa (Shawn) Anderson, Christopher (Mellissa) Hultstrand, and Stephen (Aurora) Anderson, along with six great grandchildren, Katie Vossen, Andrew Vossen, Nick Vossen, Brett Anderson, Zac Anderson, Aurelia Anderson, and sister-in-law Karen Frost. Sylvia counted time spent with her family as one of her greatest blessings and joys. The family would like to thank Molly and Kathy and the rest of the Park Nicollet Methodist Hospice staff for the loving care given to Sylvia. A memorial service celebrating Sylvia's life will be held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Bloomington at 11 AM on Friday, February 19, with visitation 1 hour before the service.
