Carlson, Richard J. Age 81, of Minnetonka. Dick's family is sad to announce his passing on February 3, 2016, after a battle with brain cancer. Bonnie, his loving wife of 58 years, was by his side. Dick was born in Superior, Wl on December 6, 1934. He is preceded in death by parents John and Anna Carlson. He was an Army veteran and a passionate architect. He was most recognized for his design of the Masonic Cancer Research Center on the U of M campus, as well as the iconic downtown Minneapolis skyline feature "black crown." His friends remember him as a "model maker extraordinaire." Before starting his own practice, he worked at many architectural firms in the Twin Cities, including HGA. While a respected, reserved professional, he was a quick wit with a sharp sense of humor. Survived by wife, Bonnie; children, Rae Anne Mausel, Scott (Joanna) Carlson, Susan (Roger) Kraft, Beret (Todd) Ek; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister Joan (William) Saed; many other relatives and friends.
