Richard W. '(Dick)' Newman

Newman, Richard W. (Dick) Our deeply loved Dick, age 90 years and eight months, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2. He so longed to be in Heaven and is now safely home. Richard (Dick) W. Newman was born in Mason City, Iowa, on May 21, 1925, but grew up in Webster City, Iowa. Dick was a 40-year employee of Northwestern Bell/U.S. West and a long-time member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Deephaven. He was also a long-time resident of the Breconwood community in Minnetonka. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was always so willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Hazel Mary (H.M.), son David (Susan) Newman, daughter Martha (Jack) Cremer; step-daughters Cheryl Stone and Caren (Ahmed) Abdelaal; grandchildren Matthew (Lindsey), Jeffrey (Marne) and Andrew Newman; Alex and Chris Cremer and step-granddaughter Sara Abdelaal; great-grandchildren Adison and Piper Newman; sister Nancy Greene and niece Sally Strehl of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and grandniece Season Strehl; and many other relatives and friends who survive him. Dick and Hazel loved each other deeply and enjoyed extensive travel, both domestic and international, after they retired. Dick was a great sports enthusiast and took delight in playing golf with friends and family and scoring a hole-in-one. Dick was a graduate of Webster City High School in Webster City, Iowa, where he excelled in sports. He entered the Navy Air Corps after high school graduation. Upon release at the end of World World II, Dick attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota. No public service will be held, but Dick will be forever loved and treasured by all who knew him.
