Brian Loughrey

Loughrey, Brian Our beloved "Coach" passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the young age of 74. Proceeded in death by his parents, Kenneth "Kenny" and Marianne "Mimi." Brian is survived by sisters Louise Bach and Peri (Mark) Loughrey, sons Sean (Anne), Brendan (Amy) and the lights of his life, his grandkids Erin, Jack, Blake, Shannon and Brett and former wife, Mary Lou (Njos) Olson. For most of his career, Brian worked with many great friends at American Family Insurance. In retirement, he still referred to them as his co-workers. He also shared a lifetime of memories with his childhood best friend, Richard Eggan. But Brian's true love was youth sports. For decades, he would be seen on the rainy sidelines of football fields and windswept outdoor ice rinks. Football, hockey, baseball, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, he tried not to miss a game for nearly 40 years. He was always ready with a twinkle in his eye for a passing toddler, or a well-meaning correction for the officials. His greatest days were spent watching his sons and - perhaps even more so - his grandkids play the sports they loved, even the once-dreaded game of soccer. Services will be held on Thursday, October 8th at 10:00am at Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, we are collecting donations for a memorial scholarship in his honor.
