Sheffer, Lewis Ivan Obed 90, passed away January 7, 2020. "Lew" was born November 27, 1929 to Clair and Margrete (Quimby) Sheffer of Byron, Minnesota, where he grew up with his six siblings: Betty, Clair, Joyce, Harriet, Donna and Diane. He received an Education degree from Mankato State University and began his teaching career in Finlayson then Askov where he met his former spouse Joyce (Lunde) Sheffer. After 13 years of teaching, Lew became a junior and senior high school principal at Hallock, Owatonna and Blaine. Lew loved sports, competing and later coaching football, basketball and track throughout his career. He enjoyed sailing, running and the arts. His greatest joy was his family, as evidenced by his constant support and encouragement. Lew is survived by his three daughters: Debra Sheffer, Carol Hauer and Nancy (John) Moynihan; nine grandchildren: Noelle, Nissa, Margot, Tyler, Spencer, Riley, Colin, Maeve and Maggie; and six great grandchildren: Emma, Henry, Kaitlin, Luke, Cooper and George. A memorial service for Lew will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1 at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. Visitation will begin one hour before the service.
