Roy, Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" After 96 years of embracing life, Betty Lou Roy passed away at Presbyterian Homes the day after her 96th birthday on January 15th. She was born on January 14, 1924 to Emma and Homer Smith and lived her life in the Lake Minnetonka area. Betty became a registered nurse, graduating from the Saint Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis nursing program. She practiced nursing throughout her life at various local hospitals. She married her husband, Donald Roy, on December 29, 1945 at St. John the Baptist Church where she and Don were life-long members. She and Don raised 6 children giving them the roots to spread wherever they chose and values to live by. Whatever challenges she faced in life, she lived them with generosity and unconditional love. When they retired, Betty Lou and Don played golf and bridge together. Betty also loved sewing and knitting during her spare time. Her Catholic faith was a guiding force in her life where she was able to celebrate her love of God. Betty was preceded in the death by her husband, Don, and her brothers Tom and Russ. She is survived by her children, Mary Jo (Todd) Helmeke, Robert (Joleen), Daniel (Anibel), Donna Russell, Dave (Julie), and Kathy Smith, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, her sister Kathy (Glen) Carlson, and many loving relatives & friends. Special thanks to the staff and care givers at Lake Minnetonka Shores who have provided such loving care to both Betty and Don over the years. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, January 24, 2020 at 11:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 680 Mill St., Excelsior (952-474-8868). A visitation will take place for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A reception will follow the service. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Shorewood.
