Schuck, Judy Carpenter (aka: Jude, Mom, Mamacita, Grambo, Grammie and Graham Cracker) of Wayzata, died Friday, November 8, 2019. She was 79 years old. Known as a rule follower earlier in her life, Judy began to push boundaries, challenging herself to do something out of her comfort zone each year. That meant attempting to paddle the Arkansas River in an inflatable kayak; having her shoulders draped with a python in the Australian Outback, and at 77, swimming in the Mediterranean with the assistance of Italian lifeguards. In addition to pushing limits, Judy challenged the definition of "retirement." She participated in three book clubs, created training materials for faculty teaching non- traditional students, attended enrichment classes and served as the chair of curriculum for the U of M Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. A graduate of Robbinsdale High School, Judy earned a BA and MA in Education and ultimately a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at the University of Minnesota. She also received a Phi Beta Kappa key. Pursuing a career in special education, Judy served as the Director of Disabled Student Services at Santa Barbara City College and as a National Trainer for the Association on Higher Education and Disability. She was Dean of Students and Director of Disabled Student Services at Minneapolis Community College. Additionally, Judy demonstrated her leadership as a member of many civic organizations; she was the Chair of the Eden Prairie Human Rights Commission and a Co- founder of the Higher Education Consortium on Learning Disabilities. In addition to all her professional accomplishments, Judy was equally devoted to her many friends and family members. She enjoyed 53 years of adventures with Edward Schuck who was known as "Fast Eddie." After Ed's death in 2016, Judy proudly lived independently until her life was cut short after a valiant battle with renal cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alden "Bud" and Madalyn Carpenter; she is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (Kurt) Glaser and Suzanne Miller, as well as her grandchildren, Hayden and Claire Miller and Eddie and Kasey Glaser. The Celebration of Judy's life will be held on Sunday, November 24 at 2 p.m. at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, 3121 Groveland School Road, Minnetonka. Memorials are preferred to Acacia Global acaciaglobal.org/ and the Southern Poverty Law Center (splcenter.org/)
